A stroke of destiny, or the right place at the right time. This is how Stone Gossard and Ani DiFranco connected to support women and their rights to reproductive health care. The track is “Disorders,” created by Gossard along with Josh Evans, Skerik and Stanton Moore, with lyrics and melody by DiFranco. Listen to “Disorders” HERE. All proceeds go to the National Network of Abortion Funds, which aims to remove the financial and logistical barriers to abortion access. “Disorders” is a production of Loosegroove and Righteous Babe Records.

About “Disorders” Gossard says, “What keeps me coming back to playing my guitar is the magic of how musical bits and pieces can transform into a complete song with a life of its own . The major ingredients are usually an inspired collaboration and some ephemeral fairy dust. What was recorded 6 years ago as a demo in New Orleans sat for a while until Skerik had the epiphany to ask his friend, the singer, musician, artist, and activist Ani DiFranco, to add her voice and words. Ani's fierce melodic independence and her visceral in-the-moment vocal performance took this track to a much higher plane. I'm thrilled have been part of this song and to have had the chance to collaborate with this Incredible group of artists.”

DiFranco shares that longtime friend Skerik mentioned a track he was working on that needed vocals and lyrics and she offered to listen. “What showed up was a killer track with an evocative guitar hook, a shape, a vibe, a bombastic balls-to-the-wall outro. I marveled that anyone could record a song that sounded so cohesive and fully realized with no melody or lyric to guide it. I felt instantly inspired and honored. I was invited to sing about whatever I wanted.”

DiFranco continues, “With the imminent overturning of Roe v. Wade, women in every Republican stronghold in this country are left treading in a sea of unnecessary suffering, just trying to keep their heads above water. Poor women will be drowned by the score. That is why this track is a fundraiser for abortion access - to help women who don’t have resources but who desperately need abortions. I am so grateful for men like Stone, Skerik, Stanton- not just for the blessing of this track and the honor of being invited into it, but for actually seeing women in their full humanity and being willing to stand with them.”

LYRICS
one disorder
or another
it’s a lot to process
so much for due process

can i take your order?
can i take how you ignored her?
can i even pique your interest?
(buy me time to get dressed)

if you know
then you know
how your grip can just let go
how the meaning can get missed
once you know how it feels
to not exist

i have entered into
negotiations
with the blissful abyss
of disassociation
and all that it implies
watching you weaponize
your ejaculations

one fire
or another
it’s a lot to process
i just need an egress

your importance
has reached global proportions
it’s a lot to process
i guess this my process

i have entered into
negotiations
with the blissful abyss
of disassociation
and all that it implies
watching you weaponize…

i don’t give a fuck what you think you know
look at you, you don’t know

CREDITS

I really like the music. Ani DiFranco uses that twee baby voice that I'm not a fan of. But this sounds promising.

This was really cool, and I usually also don’t like Ani DiFranco’s voice, but it worked, especially in the final minute.

I liked the song but I have very mixed feelings about her as a person so I'm not all in

That's why I prefer not to know anything about performers whose art I happen to like.
People are such a disappointment, it's unbearable.

I think that's fine as long as it's not something that spoils the message of the music for you; my main issue with her as that she sits uncomfortably between vocal support of trans people, and trying to keep trans-exclusionary feminists "understood" and happy at the same time; personally I don't think she's a TERF, but her fence-sitting makes it different for me to fully embrace a song like this; and what frustrates me is that Stone is unlikely to be immersed in the issues enough to take a stand beyond "supporting a women's cause"; I'm not mad at him for it

I’m disappointed by the production. Very generic modern indie rock. Boring.

I like it that it's minimalistic in its sound. I tend to move towards more minimalistic sounding music lately.
For instance, although I enjoyed Quick Escape initially, with time it's become irritating because of all the unnecessary fluff and excessive noises mixed into it.
DOTC remains the only tack with repeat value for me off of the whole of Gigaton.

Its a bummer Ed passes on so much of Stones music. The vocal melody clearly sounds like Stones.

The music is so much more interesting than what we are getting from Pearl Jam.
Add a vocal melody from Ed and we have a pretty great tune here.

Now its just a bit meh.

So do you like the live versions of Quick Escape?

Not any version any more. I've grown indifferent towards it.
