Let's say you could pick a former PJ drummer to re-record a PJ album from after their tenure.

Dave Krusen doing Yield, or Jack Irons trying his hand at Backspacer, or Dave A. putting china cymbals all over Avocado, etc.

Which drummer/album pairing would you pick, and why?

I'd love to see what Jack would do with those Riot Act songs

I'd second that. Matt's drumming/percussion on River Cross drove me nuts.

+1, and I think SBWM could actually be a cool song if it felt more ragged rather than machine-like

Same here. "Can't Keep" seems right up his alley.

Oh yeah, I said "after their tenure" but really it could also be before

i think eddie vedder originally wanted him to be the drummer but he passed b/c of the chili peppers. i was just gonna say "ten" but i'd love to hear him on any of the first 3 records. he's really good on the 4th and 5th lol

I LOVE Jack Irons, but I'd be curious to see how Dave A did on the later albums, like Riot Act or S/T (or anything post-Yield).

i don't think that's accurate. Depending on exact dates, RHCP either had DH Peligro or Chad Smith once PJ was a five-top.

Jack on Binaural. But I'll settle for the Yield era recording of Of the Girl that I assume has Jack on it.

I feel like Riot Act would end up sounding like a sister record to Vitalogy with Dave A on it

Matt on Vitalogy could be interesting. Also maybe Ten.
Dave A on Avocado or Gigaton too.
Jack in Binaural fuck yeah.

I feel like Jack would have trouble with the dark and claustrophobic atmosphere of Binaural.

This is such an interesting question and thought experiment, Jorge!
