He can't help when he's happy he looks insane.

I mean. I’m pretty certain they all hates doing such a video. I can imagine Ed was thinking how dumb it was so he might as well act even dumber.

I think the way he acted in those years was both totally serious and totally contrived and totally awesome.

Is this one of those things where people who only a handful of years older than me can remember a time when Guns n' Roses were a genuinely cool and tough rock band instead of an anachronistic joke?

Maybe you had to be there.

Spenno. You realize your ideal of cool has been that of a 75 year old grandpa since you were a teenager, right ?

GnR really were a proper dangerous rock n roll band for a few short years. And then Axl decided he wanted to turn the band into Queen. But yeah, people tend to think of the cycling shorts and riots era rather than the heroin and Ritz '88 era.

wondering if anyone has any insights on this performance:

- Was it well received? Wishlist was released as a single 4 days later so I understand the bands thought process.
- Were you hoping for GTF?
- Personally, did the performance excite you?

It very much excited me. I loved Jack Irons of course, but i was 17 years old here....and when Matt Cameron enters the song with a raucous energy, i remember being very thrilled.

I still think the studio recording of the song is one of the most wonderful performances from pearl jam, but as for this live appearance - I remember being very excited and glued to the tv.

Also Ed with his leather jacket and hair. Oh baby! :heartbeat:

I 100% attribute the beauty of that recording to Jack's hi-hat work.

Let's hope Mach II is better.

I remember staying up to watch this cause I was looking forward to watching them play Given to Fly
At first I was disappointed - but have come to love both this performance and this song

I believe that was a little behind the scenes snippet of Roger Waters and Ed Ved rehearsing comfortably numb for that benefit. Just a 2.5 minute video of sorts. Was cool
