Are mods going to merge this with the old thread? Are we living in the wild west where newbies can start a new post on an existing topic however they want. What about the RULES.

It has been merged but it retained the new thread title not the old one.

I see. Why would anyone in their right mind do that.

In the past when threads were merged the titled went with the oldest of the threads. Maybe this is a new version of phpbb that uses a different criteria, such as which thread had the most posts?

Quite possibly. At least the old threads had uniformity.

it annoys me that Breath is on there.
It's kind of a weird tracklisting overall.
If I were to design a one-disc "greatest hits"-type compilation from the same era, it would look something like this:
1. Alive (promo single mix) 2. Even Flow (single mix) 3. Jeremy (single mix) 4. Black (O'Brien remix) 5. Yellow Ledbetter 6. Daughter 7. Go 8. Spin the Black Circle 9. Corduroy 10. Better Man 11. Who You Are 12. Hail, Hail 13. Given to Fly 14. Do the Evolution 15. Last Kiss 16. Nothing As It Seems 17. Grievance 18. I Am Mine
Is it really that weird of a tracklisting? It seems to me the compilation is pretty much everything it claims to be.
Personally, I'd ax neither-hit-nor-single "Breath" for forgotten single "Oceans" on the second disc, and ax neither-hit-nor-single "Once" for something else from the 2000-2002 era, probably "Insignificance" or "Grievance," on the first. But other than that I think they did alright with this thing.

I've never listened to this.
I bought it for the alternate mixes (Once, Alive, Black, State of Love and Trust, Who You Are, etc.)
Totally worth it for those. And once was a hit, just not a single.
as an aside, when you merge threads it sometimes (I don't know when/why) takes the new title. But if you go to edit the first post and then hit save (and not touch anything) it goes back to the old title
That is the only modding trick I know. I have now made myself irrelevant

Just for posterity because nobody mentioned it in the new posts: Pearl Jam didn't make any choices at all on this, except maybe dividing soft and loud songs. This is just a compilation of every song released as a single in order of release of the album on which it appeared. It was a simply a final contractual obligation to Sony, and maybe the joke is that their greatest hits were just anything that ever made it to the radio.
* edit-- I might be wrong about all of this. Alas.

That logic doesn't really hold much weight.
These songs were never released as "official" singles: Once, SOLAT, RVM, Corduroy, I Got Id, Do the Evolution, Black, Breath, Small Town, Betterman, Nothingman, Yellow Ledbetter
These songs were released as "official" singles but don't appear on RVM: Oceans, Bu$hleaguer (believe it or not???), Love Boat Captain
So there was obviously some type of decision-making that went into this process

Think it was less strictly singles but which songs charted and some soundtrack songs.
