I watched this again the other day and enjoyed it. I think if you didn't know about the band and only took the content on face value rather than what was left out then it does the job okay. I do wish the live music clips had been in sequence with with time period they were relating to in the story arc i.e. instead of using a Release from 2006 maybe one from 91-92. It feels like the story takes a massive leap in time for no apparent reason.

I wouldn't necessarily say that it "set the band back" but that whole period was the nadir of my Pearl Jam fandom. That was definitely made more acute by the band framing their activity in that time as a "thank you to the fans" when it felt to me as though they were moving rapidly away from most of the things I liked about them.
Do you consider that period to be over?
I didn't like the movie much the first 2 times but I watched again a couple of months ago & found it much more thoughtful and moving than I had previously. I do think it captures nicely the ethos of the MLB period and the emergence of PJ, who they were and how they came together and how exciting it was. But of course it's woefully inadequate about the last 10 years.

They haven't been very active recently, so it's hard to say.
Having a new album and new material being the focus of their activities should hopefully be an improvement.
Watching pj20 again. Phone interview with andy towards the start. 'Well if I don't make it I want my band to be the band of the 90s'. Prophetic.
"im gonna fire my band, and get a new band, and then that band will be the band of the 90s!"
i thought one of the best parts of this was that they really show how funny andy wood was. ive heard people talk about it, but ive always known him as the guy who OD'd and wrote 'crown of thorns'. in pj20 u could tell he seemed like a real funny dude.

You should check out the Andy WooD documentary. Good watch.
I really enjoy the PJ20 Film. I enjoyed the celebratory approach of it. Sure, Id love for it to dive into the creative process of writing no code- binaural but that movie ain't going to sell shit (not unlike those actual records)
Some great footage and a nice little entertainment piece of how awesome Pearl Jam is.

I'm watching it right now. They're being as honest as they can be but there's an overwhelming feeling of fear. I can't tell these guys this, how can I tell a camera? And an unlimited audience?
Ok. Here comes the drummer bit. And they move straight into Stone talking about them getting crazy very night?

I thought Andy came across as a stadium rocker douche.

those aren't mutually exclusive
yeah. as far as personality and humor go, im sure stadium rocker douche bags are far more interesting and entertaining than some indie nerds.
