How can I hear them? Im at work which is why I dont generally download stuff, also why i havent heard Puzzles and Games somebody sent me, because mostly I browse this site at work
I'm going to LAL these right now with fresh ears...
Cold Confession pretty ballsy of Ed to commit to this cracked style of singing throughout like how it starts out spare with distant organ nice hi-hat work by Matt BOB would have murdered this song in its infancy has a slight touch of Pink Floyd's Echoes going on with one of those guitars (Stone?) would love to hear this with the Binaural recording style. Tchad Blake listens to this track. a puddle forms at the bottom of one eye, releasing a lone tear that streaks his olive skin white. he thinks of what might have been. he softly drops his Sennheisers on the mixing console and, with an unmistakable crack in his voice, tells los lobos to stop looking at him and play the fucking cut again. los lobos complies, as they always do with tchad, or 'el guapo' as they are fond of calling him. (the band looks up after a minute of playing to gauge el guapo's reaction, but the swivel chair behind the console is now spinning, empty. another recording day stolen by bitter memories of those gringos in Mermelada de Perlas.)
Let it Ride this is more in the vein of Riot Act. could easily see it coming after cropduster and ghost. in the first minute or two, feels like this song doesn't know what it is yet. a bit meandering. then when they get to the middle and it builds i start to like it more. like the sound of the snare on this. feel like this could jam out for another full minute. this is definitely a b-side. taken to the woodshed some more, given a few more twists and turns, it could have been really cool.

Let it Ride has nice guitar/bass tones, way better than anything off S/t even for a demo/unmastered track, although Adam Kaspar somehow amplifies that bad cymbal mp3 sound on everything. not sure if its just compression. But they sound shit on my S/t Vinyl also.

The S/T album was recorded in the same studio with the same producer as Riot Act and all the unmastered and rough mix tracks available reveal a similar warmth and naturalness to me. Unfortunately it seems as though it got slaughtered at the mastering stage.
