My main problem with the album version of "Speed of Sound" isn't the actual band arrangement, but the number of frivolous flourishes added in to busy up the track-- the hammered dulcimer, the castanets, the sleigh bells, the much-maligned lasers. There's a good song at the core of it, but there's so many bizarre instrumentation choices in the finish product that it feels like an ugly, bloated mess.

And put me down as another "Strangest Tribe" enthusiast.

Don't forget o'brien and his damn piano, all thats missing is some sax to top it all off. You know, people allways mention lasers, where in the song are they? i cant hear them.

+1 strangest tribe, eddie's voice is velvet smooth

I love the production on the Lost Dogs version of Wash, it sucks you right into the song.

The studio version of speed of sound always made me think of a circus, the way all the extra stuff they added in sounds

There's a lot that this band does well. Obviously, as we are all still here. But there's some that....I'm heading over to the bitching thread.

Then you've never heard the last three minutes or so of Rhapsody In Blue.

Edit: Or a million other pieces of music throughout history that aren't just fist pumping wankery.

No, that was a genius post. He did to your favorite music what you did to his: reduce it condescendingly to something it isn't.

Pearl Jam praise: I really like "Let Me Sleep". The song, not the poster. I'm okay with the poster. But I love the song.
