I hate when something like this is very top of the page.

Then I have to go back and read the bottom of the last page.

Fuuuck Army Reserve is groove...even if the mix doesnt help Jeff, the bass lines in this one are massive.

Oh and i just adore Inside Job. The way the guitars kick into the second part of the song is classic Zep.

Damn this album was good live. Listening to the 2006 Albany show and they are starting with a bunch of tracks off it and they are just slaying it.

Anyone know the story with this Spotify Mix mentioned on front page? http://www.theskyiscrape.com/2017/12/to ... 017-5.html

I've a feeling it might be the BrickwallHater Remaster. Or is B having us all on? :?

I've a feeling it might be the BrickwallHater Remaster. Or is B having us all on? :?

This story is quite confusing:
- the BrickwalkHater remaster appeared on torrent sites a few years ago, and its name it provided a better mastering of the album (from the retail version). Other albums were processed by BrickhallHater, like Californication by RHCP and Mesmerize by SOAD.
- last year when the new BO'B remix was announced for the vinyl releases (along with Binaural and Riot Act), it was identified that Spotify had a different mastering of the 2006 mix. It is similar to the BrickwallHater version, but official, and it should have been mastered from the raw 2006 mixes. Basically, it is the version that should have been released in 2006, not the one brickwalled to hell.
- eventually, the 2017 mix was released on vinyl and streaming services (no CD). I do not have Spotify to check, but it should be identified as "2017 mix" there. There are some differences here and there from the 2006 mix versions, but globally Matt's drum kit is more present (personally I find the EQ very bad, especially for the snare and cymbals).

So there are at least 4 versions of Avocado:
- original 2006 release
- BrickwallHater Remaster (unofficial)
- Spotify master (2006 mix)
- 2017 mix

Thanks for the info.

Indeed, I've had the BrickWallHater for a while alright. He didn't do a bad job in fairness. I actually have another version he did, but quickly removed because he wasn't happy with it. It's not bad, but prefer his original. It's the sort of thing anyone can do with the right software, though he actually gave me some pointers at the time, and I couldn't get any remotely decent results. :shake: Would have been handy for other brickwalled albums.

This alternate mastering of the 2006 mix intrigues. Any idea where it might be found?

This master that the band may not even have intended to share remains the best sonic offering they’ve had post-2002, and a fascinating example of how crucial the mastering stage decisions are to the final product.
