I'm surprised people don't love Severed Hand as much as I do. I think it's top-shelf PJ all the way. The fun intro-into-heavy rock groove; the great lyrics; the AMAZING bridge; Ed's voice; and Mike's solo at the end. Seems like most people around here sort of shrug this one off? I was floored when they played it on TV, and it's only gotten better with age.
I love this one. I think Severed Hand is one of the highlights on the album.

Top two from the album for me.

I like severed hand, but the intro felt flat in the original mastering and the chorus needs to either be trippier, moodier, or more dynamically distinct from the rest of the song.

Agree. It is, I think, my favorite song on this album.
Yeah but they clearly meant to do that, and take that riff in a whole different direction ultimately. It’s part of the genius of the song for me.
Yeah, I definitely hear the similarities in the main riff, but Severed Hand doesn't evoke Porch for me on the whole. I feel like that they're solidly their own beasts.
