I dunno, there are 4 songs to me that kind of feel...hm...'fillery'? I guess?
Those songs are
Marker in the Sand Unemployable Big Wave Army Reserve
Of those, I think Marker in the Sand is really good, it just doesnt stand out very well after the first 4 songs...Big Wave is short and harmless...that leaves Unemployable and Army Reserve. To me Army Reserve is the worse song and also comes at a strange place on the album (Seriously Wasted Reprise -> Come Back sounds really nice). Army Reserve feels shoved in there in a strange way.
I think the highlights of the album are the very strong opening 4 tracks, Gone (honestly just for that awesome chorus), and Come Back. (Edit: Oh and I LOVE parachutes)
Inside Job is meh but it doesnt feel fillery, just undercooked.
Army Reserve has probably the best placement on the album for me, that wonderful intro is exactly what is needed after Wasted Reprise.
I think Army Reserve is wonderful and I have no idea what the lyrics are. It's just a great piece of music.
Same here. Although, the production ruined this one a little. The low quality leak had me really excited for the album version, and I ended up somewhat disappointed.

By "low quality leak," do you mean the official CD?

The line 6 pedal doing the twinkly stars bit at the end of this album is my favourite track. And it's wildly outta place on this otherwise dark n stormy angry record.

I really like Comatose, I dont usually like songs like that (not a big fan of STBC) but I think Comatose really works. Maybe because its short and sweet or something? I dont know...I really like it and it has one of my favorite solos in their catalog.

Man I love how this album opens with Life Wasted taking us out of the murkiness of the middle years...but listening back I do think this album has some production problems. a lot of these songs actually sound better to me on the phenomenal 2006 tour. still one of their best albums. Hope that tonight they play some (but not all please!!) of it

I think Life Wasted gets a bad rap (bad wrap? bad rep? I've never considered the spelling of that phrase before...) around here. It's a great classic rock riff that does indeed immediately shake the cobwebs off the beleaguered (and lovely) sounding Riot Act. In less than two seconds, you knew this was going to be a very different record. S/T is ultimately a mixed bag, and the production doesn't do it any favors, but I think Life Wasted in particular is a slam dunk.

Have you heard the (unofficial) "remastered" version of the album from brickwallhater? If not, you should give that one a try.
