Nevermind. I was going by memory. I'm listening to it again. I like the keyboards throughout the verse, not the twinkly piano.
Boom's bit is good. Brendan's isn't.

People keep saying ed should have saved this for a solo album, no, he should toss every recording of it and forget about it. Maybe sing it to his wife on her birthday or something.
Thumbing my way and this are both boring as hell, they've both got that barely melodic meandering thing going on, but at least thumbing my ways lyrics aren't lovey dovey cliches.
Right now for me this is just a worse version of just breathe. And I don't like just breathe a whole lot to begin with

I think I just really dislike the piano sound in Pearl Jam's music in general--or rather, that cheap sounds made by an electric keyboard attempting to mimic a grand piano. It just sounds chintzy.

If you're gonna use a piano, use a fucking piano. There's no reason you would use a keyboard instead of a grand piano except for practicality, because you can't fit one on stage. That said, maybe we'll get a proper nice piano on the studio version? We had one for Love Reign Over Me (wasn't that also played by Brendan?), so who knows?

That was painful to get through. This song might actually have potential if Pearl Jam showed up after the first verse... instead it keeps going as a thumbing my ass Ed acoustic shit song.
Ed needs to leave the acoustic guitar and ukelale at home. And fuck off with the piano! Brutal.

I don't really have a problem with minimal instrumentation....it can be a cool change of pace in the course of a record, albeit not a well that one can go back to that often. That being said, the song has to have some meat to it, especially if you're presenting it that unencumbered. This one, well....it just doesn't have that, to my ears.
I'm very surprised that after hearing three songs from the record, my favorite is Mind Your Manners by a considerable margin.

It's funny to me that people are taking issue with the piano. That's the least of this song's problems.
Not really. You're at a boring dinner party, which is not a disaster but it's boring, so you think I'm gonna get drunk to improve it, and then someone shits in the punch. That's the piano.

In recent years, between Pearl Jam and Ed, they have performed songs titled Better Days, Better Things and Future Days. How long before "Future Things" is born?

This song is fine, whatever, perhaps even a little nicer than Just Breathe (nowhere near as good as Speed of Sound), but I'm just not particularly interested in this kind of thing from Pearl Jam.

I... loved it.
Sorry.
No need to say sorry, if you like it then don't worry what other people have to say, just enjoy the hell out of it. my only gripe is that it doesn't seem like the rest of the band is involved enough, but its hard to hear for sure and the videos just focus on ed, studio will let us see how much the rest of the guys are involved. I did see that Jeff had his stand up bass(i think) and i love his parts when he uses it
