The more I listen, the more I think this songs actually OK. That part at the end where Ed is just saying LIGHTNIN BAWWWWLLT over and over is just too much though. Can't say I'm enjoying Future Days any more with more listens, though.

i am actually coming to like this song quite a bit. The problem is that the first 4 lines of the first verse are maybe the weakest part of the song, and I had to listen past it.
It's an upbeat, celebratory song. So if you only want pearl jam to write DARKNESS AND ANGER (unless it is yield, where it is okay for some reason) then you're shit out of luck.
We've heard three songs from the album (assuming future days is an album track--did he confirm it as such) and we have a high energy celebratory song, an angry and sarcastic song, and a down tempo minor key contemplative ballad. So pretty much every pearl jam album.

That's going to be a song that lives or dies on its studio atmosphere (future days)
will falafal enhance or detract from this experience?
Falafel enhances everything.

It's a three-minute song with a 2 minute outro. I guess that's fine with me if it's in the right place on the album. There are plenty of songs which fit that 'not much to it but it's great' mould. That's what I hoped UK would be.

Same here. I don't mind the 'LIGHTNIN BAWWWWLLT' though it would sound better if we could tag in 98 ed at that point.
Also, we have too many threads to have the same conversation in.

I wonder if this is extended live, or if it'll be that long on the album. I really like this outro--especially what the rest of the band is doing.
They'll almost definitely cut it for the album. Best to expect that and be pleasantly surprised if they don't.

I'm liking this even more with that new video. Ed should just stop singing from "yeah yeah!" onwards though. Let the band flow.
If you compare this to something like Present Tense, with an extended outro, it strikes me that he never used to feel any inclination to ad-lib throughout the ending like he does now. He was pretty bad at that on Ten though. All the yeah yeah yeahs and hey mamamama yeahs on that album kind of detract for me now.

Yeah, it's like he's too scared of boring the audience by not singing for like 2 seconds.
