Hard to get much from this little review. The more produced than Backspacer bit is a bit bothersome though.
I think if you listen to MYM, you see immediately that there's some wonky guitar effects on the solos. Maybe that's what the reviewer is talking about, as I wouldn't be surprised to hear it throughout the album.
Yes, but MYM doesn't sound *more* produced than Backspacer.

Binaural is more produced than Backspacer.

To be honest, most of the review sounds totally fine to me.
Same here. Over the years i've read a number of Pearl Jam fans say that Nothing As It Seems is boring yet i think its the best thing they've put on record in the last dozen or so years.
Interesting. Things I find exciting: 1. Pit member isn't that thrilled 2. Reference to boredom 3. Drum and vocal verse 4. MYM is the fastest song
Things I find worrisome: 1. Over produced 2. Sleeping By Myself
Optimism up 2 ticks.
I wanted Sleeping By Myself to be gorgeous, with violin and a skiffle rhythm. I'm hoping this guy just doesn't like country. Hopefully he's some fratboy who thinks country is nowhere near hardcore enough.
The production I'm not worried about as long as I like the songs enough.
On the bright side, it sounds like there is no Fixer on this album.

I don't know about that. If you compare it to something like GSMF, There's more effects work on Ed's vocal, more overdubbing, and sounds like a little more EQing on the guitars. The only production elements that seem reduced are compression and.....
(relistens)
...I guess just compression.
It's just a question of what they mean when they say "produced."

Yup. There's a chance he just means more orchestrated, bigger, more layers... I don't know. But all of those I'd be cool with, if it sounded great.

The overdubs in MYM were used to good effect, anyway.

Although multi-colored, you've got a nice head on your shoulders; I came away with virtually the same conclusion. Bottom line: it's one guy's opinion and we shouldn't start worrying until more just like this come out.

If we got a song that good on this album, I would consider the whole thing a success.
That guy keeps saying the room was very noisy. What in the fucking fuck is that? You've been privileged with an exclusive invite to a listening party, can't you sit quiet for an hour? I don't get it.

Alright boys, where's the audience recording?
Everyone that tried to record something was locked into a room with Brendan O' Brien and a keyboard for 3 hours. No one knows what exactly happened in there but they promised to never try something like this again.
