Used the song ranker to help me settle intuitive uncertainty about Binaural/Riot Act. Tough, though, because Insignificance alone makes me want to swap their order.
Lightning Bolt (the song) should have been a classic. The live renditions, strained as they can be, really elevate, especially towards the end. The studio version barely hints at it.

Why would they do a fade out over that wonderful jam at the end that recalls all things I love about Life Wasted and Severed Hand!?

Being named Lightning Bolt, I expected this album to rock hard.
Wasn't this also the reason Riot Act "sucked" when it came out?
It seemed to me that because the album was lacking in any of the experimental hallmarks of the last couple albums, and fronted by Ed's beleaguered vocals, it somehow felt phoned in. Obviously that's not been the case for a while. But I remember more than one person saying to me something like "How long did this album take them, a week?"

yeah around the time most folks felt it was too poppy too, specially the rock tunes. Only Save You was considered a heavy track and other like Get Right or Green Desease werent heavy enough.

I just remember so many people expecting it to RAWK simply because it was called Riot Act. And when it wasn't a full on thrasher, folks felt mislead and disappointed.

the first song was mid-tempo and featured an acoustic guitar and organ. Expectations IMMEDIATELY subverted!
