The eerily timely lyrics of Gigaton

Sat March 21, 2020 7:09 pm

“It’s alright to say no. Be a disappointment in your own home”

“Home is where the broken heart is. Home is where every start is.”

There are so many more...

There are indeed many lyrics that feel like they are made for this time:

Numbers keep falling off the calendar's floor
We're stuck in our boxes, window's open no more

It’s all in the delivery
Said the messenger who is now dead

As the silence gets louder my heart gets pounding
And ventricles pumping, working overtime
Our freedoms fraught with danger being circumscribed
A life cut short and circumcised

It’s alright to say no
Be a disappointment in your own home
It’s alright to turn it off
Ignore the rules of the state
It’s your own

"I want this dream to last forever,
a wish denied, to lengthen our time

I wish this moment was never-ending,
let it be a lie that all futures die"

well, I know what that wish was for me just a year ago

this album is my semi-colon :)

Still strikes me how prescient some of these lyrics were and that it was released right as the mysterious virus initially spread throughout the US mainland. Buckle up indeed.

yeah, they were super timely. Jeff spoke about that...not sure were, but i saw it. He was also surprised on how the lyrics changed their meaning when the album came out.

I can hear you
singing in the distance.

I can see you when I close my eyes.

Surrender the wish we'll be together again, but I won't give up.

Moved on from my despondency and left it in the bed
Do I leave it there still sleeping or maybe kill it, better yet?
For this is no time for depression or self-indulgent hesitance

Pet peeve maybe, but it still bugs the hell out of me that he chose to sing "hands" twice, instead of tastefully elongating "all".

Ed doesn't tastefully elongate sounds, ever
