And I don't hate it. I don't think I hate anything.
I've just listened to it again and when 'Buckle Up' starts, I have this "aah, this is much better, glad that's over and I can relax again" feeling. I think the song kinda makes me nervous. Maybe that's the whole idea. Maybe that's a good thing. But I'm not a big fan. That is all. Sorry.
I mean yeah but I think talking about specific musical elements is much more interesting and useful than "I like it" vs. "I don't like it"
people have mentioned the "feel" of it being jarring, so i assume the weird time signature turns people off. its not as smooth as "last exit" or other songs that arent in 3 or 4. ed also doesnt sound like typical ed. i dig his vocal approach, especially with the background vocals. as others others have mentioned, this sounds like a soundgarden song. i like soundgarden. other people dont.

Interesting take. I haven't read a lot on here, so this is the first time I see this. Personally I'm not a big Soundgarden fan.

'Take the long way' is a terrible song.
What's bad about it
Do you hate the way the tricky time signature gives it a cool lopsided feel
I'm not Angus, but for me, I think it's this. I'm not a musician, so maybe I don't appreciate what they did here? ( Although -I did play saxophone in the school band back in 5th grade, lol) But it just sounds kind of like a jumbled mess to me. I realize it isn't and that I'm sure musically, it's a difficult thing to do, but I just can't get into it. Like I said, I love the solo at the end, but for the most part it's just not my favorite track at all. But I still like it a lot more than CDM or even OTE for that matter.

Take the Long Way sounds absolutely great to me. I love how is sounds like a Soundgarden song. I love Ed’s vocal delivery. I don’t think it’s jarring at all in some of the ways others have described it. As of right now it’s my second favorite song on Gigaton and probably the one I’ve gone back to to listen to the most. I absolutely love it.

PJ bros hearing a song with an unusual time signature
Again, not a musician so I apologize if this is a dumb questions - does Sleight of Hand fall into this category? I liked that one when I first heard it.

I changed my vote to River Cross. I think the triumphant end to Retrograde should have been the end.
Though Retrograde is on the bottom of the list for me, it has grown on me quite a bit, and the ending somewhat salvages the song.
I was not hot on Never Destination, Whoever Said, and SBWM initially as well, but I like all 3 just fine now, and SBWM has surprisingly grown on me quite a bit as well and I now think it is pretty terrific.
River Cross was cool at first, but I am now bored of it. It is a drag/chore to get through after Retrograde.
