The spacey outro is definitely the glaring weak point in the song for me.

I actually quite like the first half.

Wait, I thought everybody here hated the first half but thought the song was redeemed by the outro?!

I'm confused.

everyone knows the first 7 seconds is the peak of the song that's why i obsessively can't get it out of my head

I love this whole song, with the exception of how weak the first drum drop sounds

matt needs to dirty-up his kit for PJ

the technician stuff works for SG bc they do interesting time signatures

with PJ he needs to grow his hair and beard and loosen up that snare and channel his inner jim henson character

Matt is a wonderfully technical drummer, and that really works on the tracks he has written but he definitely needs to learn how to loosen up a bit, although at this point I dont see that happening. He's just got no 'swing', everything is super tight. And he can be too busy by far at times - his contribution to River Cross is appalling IMO. I love the dude but sometimes I do think it'd be interesting to have someone else filling the drum stool.

I have plenty of complaints about Matt but "too busy" is not one of them; too loud / heavy-handed on tracks that don't really call for it? that's arguable; but his grooves are basic

What I mean by busy is there are times when he's hellbent on contributing when there's no need - the verses of River Cross are a case in point, where he's adding unnecessary percussion. Sometimes less is more. And sometimes no drumming is required at all.

Irritates the crap out of me. I half expect him to shout out "boats and ho's" while playing.

River Cross would work really well with no drums, in the verses or at all, but I don't think they ruin the song, they just give it a different flavour

Spelling it “flavour” because you are in the UK.

I’ll allow it.
