I’ve said this hundreds of pages ago in this thread and I’m sure this has been mentioned by others too, Comes Then Goes is the best song in this vein that Ed or PJ has done since Small Town, and this is better than Small Town.
I like your enthusiasm, and I love this song, but you’ve been in arenas when they play Elderly Woman. It transcends. It’s magic. Comes Then Goes is personal and beautiful, but it’s no Elderly Woman.
I have been. But I am talking about album recordings. I’m not judging this at all based on live performances, obviously. Comes Then Goes hasn’t even been played live.

This song is great. I have to give due props to ed, he really nailed that outro. I hope he plays like that more in the future but for longer if it fits the songs.

Same here. This different than his other solo stuff. It seems like hes heavier handed in this guitar playing. The vocals are flawless? I introduced a friend of mine to this album and he said the whole albunlm is his favorites but if he had to choose after first listen it would be 0700 and this song.

Great acoustic track. The guitar sound and presence is pretty fucking nice. Vocals and backing are nicely mixed, Ed sounds damn good. This takes me back to No Code era, somewhat.

the first time i heard this i didnt think it compared to any of his solo stuff, or even pj stuff he's written. i'm sure there's people who can tell me what exactly is different about his playing on this compared to his playing in the past.

I really can't compare Comes Then Goes to Elderly Woman because the tone is so different and the latter is much more fleshed out as a full band song on the album.

I love this song. It’s as good as I could ever expect an Ed song like this to ever sound. The guitars and vocals are both beautifully performed and recorded. I absolutely love it. Shwing.

I've probably been at 20+ shows where Small Town was played and it's always great live, but as a studio track Comes Then Goes might be better. Small Town will always be better live fwiw
