I'm pretty sure every lyrics page is wrong on this. It says "Room to tomb and cradle to grave". I think that's "womb to tomb". Which I wouldn't know if they don't always say it in West Side Story but it makes much more sense and matches cradle to grave.
"Room to tomb" makes sense, too, though, as the cradle would be contained within the room as a grave can be contained within a tomb.
Well....sort of...but a room isn't very specific. Womb is a much better lyric and Im pretty sure that's what he's saying. Both are idioms that mean "birth to death". Room to tomb means nothing.
I don't have it on me at the moment to double check, but I am sure the official booklet/artwork that came with the CD has "room to tomb."

Yes, the booklet says room to tomb. Ed chooses his words carefully, and then types them as the "official typist." He did not get this wrong. You just want it to be a different way.

I haven’t seen any Pearl Jam liner notes in like a decade, but I remember them mostly for being unconcerned with providing exactly accurate lyrics. I remember some bad spelling, some purposeful misrepresentation, and a lot of whatever the spacebar is doing here: “I’ve been har boring fleets in this resevoir (sic).”
