people have been saying it doesn't have the traditional song structure / "no chorus" / "doesn't go anywhere" / copy and paste job etc since it came out
that's what I'm calling "loose", the fact that so many people in here think they could have "fixed it" in some way
i know it gets a lot of hate, but i really do like hitchhiker joe.
It feels like a lot of later Pearl Jam is chasing Hitchhiker. It's a shame it didn't make Binaural (though that album is pretty great as is) because it just feels like they didn't have the guts to include it and they've regretted it ever since.
I'd love to hear each band member privately talk about this song.

if this was written 20 years ago it would've been relegated to a b-side a la hitchhiker
nothing on Gigaton would've been an A-side in PJ's heyday, and that's coming from a fan of Gigaton; I just don't expect heyday material from them anymore

Nah.
Who Ever Said > Glorified G Superblood Wolfmoon > Dissident Dance of the Clairvoyants > Leash Quick Escape > Smile Alright > I'm Open Seven O'Clock > Wishlist Never Destination > Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town Take the Long Way > Better Man Buckle Up > Mankind Comes Then Goes > Indifference Retrograde > Soon Forget River Cross > Thumbing my Way
Easy enough. Could probably have included more Riot Act stuff, but I feel it's not always considered heyday era PJ.

I respect your opinion, but I shook my head so hard it almost fell off at every one of these!

if we're saying 20 years ago was their heyday Dance of the Clairvoyants is as good as any single off of binaural or riot act. i dont think superblood wolfwoon is better than grievance, but i like it more than save you.

again, I respect that but I don't agree
I'm looking through that list and thinking about how underrated "Dissident" is in here; it's melodic as heck and delivered like *chef's kiss* and the lead guitar? oof
and "Thumbing my Way" is the prettiest thing they've ever done for me some days

I love Gigaton because I didn't think they had it in them anymore; that definitely influences my opinion -- it's their best work since Riot Act for me, but not better than Riot Act and probably not equal to it
