This could be the only part that's synth sounding. It could kick into full rock/punk/metal/ballad/blues/anything after that intro.

this weekend i'm going to listen to every song that the band has ever recorded in chronological order in anticipation of the new single so i can have a true appreciation for the personal and artistic growth that the band has had over the last 3 decades

I have a friend who's clairvoyant and she said this 15 second clip sounds nothing like music that she and her clairvoyant friends would dance to.

I'm in for this if that's the real thing and they can keep it up for the whole song. It's like a more direct extension of ideas from "You Are" and "Infallible."

Woah, it's taken me four days to figure out how to login from my last go 'round, which was sometime after LB's release I think? I've been lurking here un-logged-in pretty regularly to bask in the cynicism. Have barely touched a PJ LP/CD/stream for years, and I still can't, really. Try as I might to resist the urge to get my hopes up, the rollout of this album got me pumped. As others have stated, new album cycle time is so hard to resist. This little clip from the BS Podcast has upped the anticipation. I have no doubt it's legit; Simmons has played Corduroy as his intro music for at least two years now, always starts his pods with "and our friends, Pearl Jam". To switch it up and not give any info is telling.
Not sure if the song will be great, but I'm so psyched to hear something different from them. I could get into a lot more of this type of sound. The drums sound great and I agree with the sentiment that the kick and snare could be processed signals of Matt's playing. Love the dirty bass tone. I'm probably going overboard here but that's what these times are for I suppose. I know I'm echoing sentiments of many already, but I'm happy to be logged in. A little embarrassed to be an album-cycle fair-weather poster, but it is what it is. Maybe I'll try my hand at a pun soon. My literary success aside, it's a device I've yet to fully develop.
