There's been a lot of chat about what the "she" of the song is, on the LB song thread. I won't bore everyone with it again but go backwards in that thread if you're interested enough. I really like the lyrics, give or take a few lines. I don't even mind the "catchy" chorus lyrics because everything else digs down deeper, so the chorus is just designed to catch the ear and does it well enough. The problem is it turns just as many people off, so they'll never spend time to dig deeper, but whatever. I found this song a trainwreck at Wrigley and I don't here

This song sounds better to me the further it recedes into the annals of the band's history -- there is a heart-on-sleeve sincerity to it that for years felt unduly corny, but makes more sense to me as I look back with some distance on the intensity of the time. "Hold me and make it the truth/That when all is lost, there will be you," is a great lyric, and the strain in Eddie's voice surrounding it is convincing. I haven't listened to the new version of it but I can't imagine what connection it has to "Jumpin' Jack Flash."
