In my bottom 10 of PJ songs. I appreciate its ambition and subject matter, I just dont think it succeeds. The title/main lyric is certainly an issue, though I mainly just think the song itself is all over the place. It has no flow, it sounds like a bunch of parts pasted together. There is also no discernable riff or hook and not Ed's best lyrics. I read somewhere that this started as a 12 minute song from Ed and Boom. Matt mentioned he originally didnt get it at all. I still dont get it.

It's one of the first times Eds written not about how person x feels in the third person, but rather about how he feels, in the first person. This and Parting Ways.
I take from that, that some people get pissed cos they feel excluded and need it to be relatable.
Can anyone relate to what they each must have been going through after Denmark?

A huge chunk of their catalog, old and new, is written from Eddie's perspective. The fact that so many people can relate to his lyrics, whether he is writing about himself or not, is one of his best attributes. I just dont think LBC is one of their better songs.

Man, this song is the perfect example of a song that can be covered in cheese wizz lyrics and still be fucking great.
The song Lightning Bolt has a lot to fucking learn from LBC
Yep. Although, to be fairer to it, it's got the opposite problem (and saving grace). The music and performance is a little cheese whizz, but the lyrics (mostly) are really good in my opinion.

Wait were you talkin about LB or LBC? I don't mind the lyrics to LB so much, except the chorus line "Gotta know you'll never let her go/She's Lightning Bolt" is probably the worst lyric on the whole album. I just find the whole "Eddie's melody follows the guitar line" very cliche, it does it a fair bit on this album and only works on Getaway. It's just a very pseudo-emotional song in my opinion, there's nothing for me to attach to

Ah OK. Yeah I was talking about LB. It's the wrong thread so I won't ruin it, only to say that because "she" isn't a girl, it's not so bad. It wouldn't be good if he was talking about a hot chick being a Lightning Bolt.

There a lot of funny comments, personally I think the lyrics are well developed, it is basically written based on a boat trip in a strange place, I see that as life, but it is good to see people that found LBC more cheesy than I thought.
Also, I think it talks about maturity and that pendulum movement of loving, starting a project, getting dumped, pain, then repeating everything. By the way, he believes love is all that matters, and the elder ones already know this.
So the "constant recoil" is a reference to this movement, since goes back, then towards everytime it happens.
