While I think there are many (many) cringe-worthy moments in Ed's lyrics, particularly in the last 15 years or so, that doesn't really matter to me. Ed is a true artist in that he draws from his personal life to inspire his music, and shares that with his fans. For better or worse, his personality comes through pretty consistently in his lyrics, and I think that's a great and often generous gift to his fans.

I'm on board with that. He does come across as a generous, warm and open person. I don't think he's very smart, though.

Wow. What an asshole. Why'd he do that to that poor man? What did that guy do to him, I wonder... Either way, no way to behave, especially on stage, where you're trying to portray yourself as a nice guy.

I always thought this line was simple and brilliant and captured the essence of this song perfectly - we spend so much time wishing that we lose sight of how lucky we already are.

These are not smart, but I really like them.
