I think it's suffered alot since 2000 at live performances, and they've never hit the heights they reached with the studio version, but I still think we're talking about the difference between 'really, really great' and 'absolutely astonishing.'
This is the best song PJ has ever recorded, IMO, and it's been my number one for years now.

I actually really dislike the mix of this song, it's too grating IMO. I dunno what it is. The booming chorus gets on my nerves.
Also it kills me every time they do it live, and Eddie hits the "Immortality...." near the beginning and Stone (or Mike? Whoever) doesn't play the guitar wail from the solo. I sing it like every time and it's rarely there
That part is so cool it disappoints me that it only happens once in the song. I heard them do a live version once I think with an extra verse that did it again and it made me like it better.

I thought they didn't like blake's mixes because they thought they didn't sound 'pearl jam' enough or something?
And then they made Backspacer.

3 albums and nine years later.
Are you saying backspacer sounds like pearl jam? Or that it doesn't? .....or neither
The bridge to this song is sex
That it doesn't, really. That if they were hung up on 'sounding like Pearl Jam'... should I take it to the bitching thread?

I just visited my parents' new house in the sticks. It was right next to a field of sheep. I never realised how noisy they were, or that each of them had a different call, until the last couple of days. Some of them sound like sheep, but others just sound like men going 'MEEEEEEEEH' or women screaming.

Those were the cries of the carrots.
