Mirrorball - this was pearl jam, with Neil singing. Ed even does a verse on 'Peace and Love'. Pearl Jam + BOB + Neil - Ed did the tour. Nothing about this puts 'Throw Your Hatred Down' in cover territory. These guys helped write and record and tour on the damn thing. This is canon. They need to play more of this album.

Temple of the Dog - just stop doing this. Literally every member of modern pearl jam on this record - Ed singing on Hungerstrike. No covering here.

'Missing' - this was a Chris Cornell / Singles era song - performed for the first time 2 years ago by this band. Cornell performed it with PJ sans Ed and goes 'I don't even know how this song is supposed to sound'. If PJ sans Ed is performing this for the first time and touring on it, it's not a cover. They are the first fucking band to play it live. so just stop it

now back to disparaging pearl jam's COVER of 'Comfortably Numb'

I really don't mind any of their covers. Just don't like seeing so many of them in a set list.

note: doesn't mean it's a 'pearl jam song' though, more of a side project

Also not a cover:

Doobie Brothers, Taking Care of Business

because it grossly redefined not only the song but a genre of music

emphasis on 'grossly'

"Throw Your Hatred Down" is a great cover -- it's not a huge hit, so it can slide comfortably into a run of main set tunes without feeling conspicuous, and it's kinda half their song anyway.

Historically, sparing use of Neil Young, Who, and other oddball covers ("Soldier of Love," "Timeless Melody") have served PJ's live sets well. It was only once they started fashioning themselves an all-purpose 70's FM classic rock jukebox that things started getting depressing.

I started feeling this way once Mike started playing Eruption. I love Mike and all, but nobody wants to see anyone but EVH play that. At least I don't.

"Eruption" doesn't really faze me -- it's just Mike and it usually just feels like a short lead-in to whatever they play next.

I actually like the Eruption/ Ain't Talkin' cover... especially Hartford '13.

Seems Ed's old voice makes a pretty good DLR impersonation.

I was at the show in 2010 when they did Ain't Talkkin'... for the first time. And Ed specifically said it was a one time only thing. And then I was there in 2013 when they did it again.

The Doobie Brothers didn’t do this song. It’s a Bachman-Turner Overdrive tune.
