That it’s not about the music anymore

The fact that they played Oracle OpenWorld in 2012. Not just a corporate gig, which is bad enough for a band that supposedly has integrity, but a corporate gig for Oracle and Larry Ellison.

I was never upset they played it (was it Reznor that said for the right money NIN would play anything?). I was annoyed that at the time they tried to pretend it didnt happen.

Don't worry, he's talking about _tree not tree_

Ah, _tree must've been the one to cite biological differences between men and women in a debate about women's wages in the workplace.

not gonna lie, whether it's fair or not, my interest and perception of PJ absolutely changed when Boom joined the band. there is certainly a dividing line there for me. and i can't get over it.

If it wasn't for the last 9 years or so I would say Ed's vocal stylings in the early 90's.

I know where that is, it's nearby where I live. Trust me, he could have gone 10 mins down the road and spent 10x more. He was slummin' it.

You're not alone. Sound's just not the same. All their songs just bleed together now. There's no variety in their albums anymore because all you hear are keys.
Sun May 13, 2018 4:37 pm
That's nutty. You can barely hear the keys most of the time. You mean live right?
Sun May 13, 2018 4:41 pm
I'd argue that it's not necessarily Boom's direct contributions that have changed their sound, but rather that the inclusion of his instrument was symptomatic of the band's shift towards a more monochromatic song style. Where before there would be multiple layers of guitars and others odd sounds, suddenly it was "two guitar parts, and let's just have Boom fill in any open space."

Basically they went from ragged guitars and little sound nuggets to Cat Stevens with an amp.

I'm in this camp too, and I can't help it. Boom marks their downfall.
