Small Town is a top 10 song for me. Simple composition, great lyrics, beautiful performance, and an early showcase for Ed's emotional depth in his character pieces.
Well said. It's also some of Ed's best lyrics. I fucking adore Small Town.
All of that might be true, but I have no desire to hear this song again. Especially in concert.
I only vote on studio versions of these songs. The concert angle has no affect on how I vote. But I do understand why someone would be tired of the song live. I don't agree but I do get it.
same. studio versions only for me. i always hated that i loved Small Town. it was everything that PJ wasn't at the time. especially when Vitalogy came out. but i alwayd did love it, deep down. i don't like hearing the live version, unless you're there, and it's pretty good.
i remember the first time my wife went to a PJ show with me, and the lights came on when the crowd screamed, "HELLO". i think she looked around and went, "Wow..."
Oh man that's awesome.
As much as I've heard this song, I STILL look forward to that moment every time.
Same. I enjoy taking people to shows who have never been, because they are consistently awed by what we take for granted
That and the DTE Hallelujah and the GTF arms wide open.

Blood and Animal, I suppose. Blood's an easy choice of the remaining songs, but the rest are all on a similar tier. Vs. is a very spotty record at points, but the best material is some of the band's best.

Blood Animal
This will probably be how I vote though it hurts me to say goodbye to Blood.
This is often the case for all of us Bonnie Doone. For instance, I cut myself on the side of my finger whilst cooking dinner this evening, and that hurt like a little bastard.

what part?
It's very quiet, and it just kind of adds a bit of background color around the "I just want to scream hello" part. Sounds like synth strings. Then it comes back at the end briefly.
