Some of it can be seen as taste, as there are people out there that prefer the newer records. But I feel like they lost something vital. I would love it if they made more records, and took chances, tried different things. If they worked together as a band to make songs. However, I understand they are all getting older, and with families and other commitments, it's probably difficult.

Stop aiming at markets or radio. Just record and release records.
I don't think they write less songs than in 1996-2002, but they sure record and release less.
Have 10 songs ready every 2 years. Experiment with them, change producers, ways of recording.
Record a garage album, an acoustic one, and another glossy return to form album.
Be more like Neil, be less like Bruce or Bono.....

They haven't put out an album in over 4 years, but they've done several tours, released a pretty cool film, got inducted into the rrhof, reunited temple just in time, and put out several side projects. I think as men, they'll look back and be happy they did all of the things they wanted to rather than the things everyone else wanted them to.

It struck me tonight that ed just being 100% ed...no "is this what you what me to be," no songwriter thinking, no clever lines or whatevs...is what I like most. It's not what I want from almost anyone other. But.
