so dct hates this song? even the last 2 minutes or so? say it ain't so joe.
Look, speaking as a child of the 90s....
Why does this bother so many people so much? Because it's a nod/wink to the Mike Watt song? Because maybe Pearl Jam was a "child of the 90's? Because maybe the character in the song is a child of the 90's? I don't know, but what's the big deal? It sounds kinda cool to me. /shrug
I can see why people don't like the first part of the song. It's a little clunky and the vocals are pretty rough. I like it all, but can see where people are turned off by it. The back half of the song though is like Pearl Jam at their best. That ending. Wow!

It doesn't bother me, really. I think it's a dumb reference and the song wouldn't be worse without it, but I don't actively hate that it's there. It's just stupid. I think there's also something cringy about the delivery of the line, too. But again, nothing that would ruin the song for me if it was a song I liked.

Habit and Evacuation are both great. I love the Evacuation chorus and the outro on Habit is spectacular. Oddly, it took me a long time to come around to a favorable opinion on both songs, but now I’ve been a big fan for many years. Damn, everything is getting old.

The only bad thing about this song is that damn fade out starts too early. I could listen to them jam on this for 10 more minutes. It borrows from Big Green Country but Habit is even better.
