I'm just over here waiting for Wrigley '13 or PJ 20.
Here's the thing with PJ 20. I was there, it was fantastic to be there, Temple was great.
But if I'm Eddie Vedder, I'm embarrassed to look at/listen to myself there.
1. Including the Temple portion, his time on stage in aggregate is very low, particularly for a PEARL JAM show. 2. The performances of Pearl Jam stuff, and Ed's lyrics in particular, are sloppy as fuck. Beyond even typical standards. It was the first show of the run, and the 2-night stand in Toronto (with Neil Young RITFW closer) was a far better "Pearl Jam show". 3. Ed drinks on stage, we know that. But there are a few shows where he is clearly "drunk". Boston '04 is like that, and so was PJ 20.
This was supposed to be their night like none other, and they completely shit the bed.
Now, it is what it is. Particularly because I was there and know it was filmed, I'd love to buy it, not least because Chris is no longer with us. But looking from the band's perspective, CD and DVD sales are down across the board and I wouldn't want someone's first and/or only exposure to Pearl Jam being that. I think it's the same notion as the '95 tour movie that got shelved even though the live performance bits were amazing. Pearl Jam would rather piss people off and maintain whatever warped sense of artistic integrity they have (no Arc on the "complete" '03 bootlegs, cutting "Beth" out of vault/unplugged releases) than release something that the fans want or don't care about and would sell anyway.
