The board's server will undergo upgrade maintenance tonight, Nov 5, 2014, beginning approximately around 10 PM ET. Prepare for some possible down time during this process.

I can't believe I'm typing this, but I think I actually prefer the bombast of the original mix/master on ST. This new version sounds a lot more rich and natural in its production, but also much less exciting and energy-inducing.
I also wanted to address this, just for the sake of accuracy:

3. If he adjusted the EQ on the guitars to make them less brittle, carved out some extra space for Ed's voice, and made a few minor adjustments to ensure a cleaner master...that's a remix.
Not true. All of those changes can be done by any good mastering engineer who understands M/S decoding.
Let me rephrase to more accurately state my point: I don't believe those changes are outside the scope of what the band might perceive as a "remix."

I did hear some differences on parts of RA. Binaural sounded the same to me, but that's also not a record in any kind of regular rotation (though neither are the either two)

Just put on Riot Act. I listen pretty exclusively with headphones when I'm not in my car, and I am DEFINITELY hearing new details that I haven't picked up before on Can't Keep. If they were there before they were much harder to pick up on.
This is pretty exciting. It's not like getting a new record, but it does make old friends feel fresh and new
Just change a few words and this is my exact argument for wife swapping.

Please PM theplatypus - he runs all of my wife swapping correspondence.
Just listened to S/T on some good headphones. A definite improvement, several songs have a chance to breathe a bit. I finally listened to the whole album without getting a headache! That's a win.
Not to get too over my skis here but the "new" version has echoes of Yield in that you can hear each instrument which gives it so much more personality. It's not just one big monolith of sound packed together.
Will we be getting a digital re-mixed / re-mastered version of Avocado with this?
Unknown. Probably not.
Wha?
All the previous remasters have had corresponding digital releases via iTunes, HD Tracks, etc.
I would be quite shocked if that wasn't the case here too.
Prepare yourself, Spenno.
Screw Spenno. Prepare yourselves Ridley and Wendy.
Just listening to Avocado on spotify - what an difference a bit of space around each instrument makes!
Sounds more similar to the 'Brickwallhater' mix than the original 2006 release
May need to update the Deluxe edition once we have this in digital HD flac (which even the most cyncial PJ fan would have to expect to be the case come November).
Looks like I'm signing up for Spotify. I've resisted for long enough. What's the quick run down on how it works? Do you pay a monthly fee and have access to all of their music? Can you download and play offline?
