The board's server will undergo upgrade maintenance tonight, Nov 5, 2014, beginning approximately around 10 PM ET. Prepare for some possible down time during this process.

When I got the phone, it just had the green one. Then one day, it just start using the blue one. I thought it was a software upgrade, but the green one is still there and works.
WTF?

do they both work the same?
It appears as though they do. It's just one day they started coming in on the blue one. I just switched, figuring they updated the app, but the old app never went away.

After researching, the only thing I've really seen is that there's a glitch where the green version is suppose to be your voicemail app, but that wouldn't seem right in your case since you still have an icon for voicemail. You might want to go check in Apps under System Settings and see if there are any clues there.

Could it just be an aftermarket texting app that came preloaded? I have tried other texting apps but have always gone back to the standard Android one, which is the 'green' one that is on B's screen.

I still don't know why it was uploaded automatically with a software upgrade.

I wonder if that means it's separate from my texting plan. I can't really check b/c the bill doesn't come to me.
If it uses SMS you're getting charged. That was one of the pluses of eBuddy or even the facebook messenger app as it skirts text plans. Since it seems third party I would just uninstall it, unless you get more out of it. Under settings of your native messaging app you should be able to turn off notifications so you don't get both.

I am really enjoying Google's latest Pixel campaign trying to call out Apple for not playing ball with RCS.
I doubt it will work, though. iPhone users will still say that it's the green bubble's fault for not converting to Apple and screwing up group chats, but at least the concept is getting out there more frequently now.
