People are weird about operating systems. I've been back and forth with iOS versions on my iPads and iPhone and have install a bunch of different Android mods on my Samsung devices without "bricking" any of them.

Again, you have nothing to lose. You've already wiped your phone.

Thanks. I may try it.

I've had four different iPhones over the last eight years. The first one was an iPhone 3gs, the second an iPhone 5s, then an iPhone 6s, and finally an iPhone 7. The first one lasted me for 4 years without any problems. Really felt like a revolution getting it. At the end though, it felt like the world had moved on without me. So I replaced it. After a couple of years with the new phone, I got some issues with charging it, which were really annoying. Upgraded to 6s, but I wasn't pleased with how it functioned at work for me. So then I got a free upgrade to a 7 around Christmas. Been perfect ever since. Plenty of room to store music and apps, works fast, takes quality pictures, and I've always loved the software.

My iPhone 5 fell in a river two weeks ago and it came out completely fine.

I think I'm on my 5th. Had one since the 4. This 6 Plus is the first one I've been unhappy with. This glitch is the worst, but I also should have gone with more than the lowball 16g. Grabbed it last summer shortly before the 7 was released thinking I could upgrade to the 8 when it comes around. I hate that so many things are touch-based now.

Don't do it. It might be a virus.

Yeah. I was super apprehensive about that, as you all can imagine. Viruses are a real threat to software and it feels like there's a risk of that when downloading something. I've received a virus in my software before and believe me it's not fun.

You're downloading an encrypted OS file from Apple's servers.

You're not gonna get a virus.

That's what they all say.

I though apple products were supposed to be impervious to virus/malware?

The old saying is no computer is safe from viruses unless it's unplugged and buried 10 feet deep.

But Apple's OSs are all derivatives of BSD, which is the most-secure branch of Unix, which is considered the most secure OS.
