Television Set

Thu May 12, 2022 2:31 pm

My current Television Set is losing its backlighting. I guess that's what I should expect from a cheap TCL Television Set. ITT, please recommend to me a high quality Television Set, that's relatively affordable, as I'm not a rich guy. Thank you in advance.

I'd PM jorge if I were you. He really helped me out with a television recommendation once. Most importantly, he did it without judgement or bias towards my preferences. He should be able to hook you up and point you in the right direction.

OK I will do that right now. Thank you.

What about this one? I like that I can make interest free payments. Keep in mind that I do not need good sound as I already have a nice soundbar to hook it up to. Also I do not think I need it to be super bright cause it's in the basement and it's dark down there. I would like good visuals though. I don't think my TCL looked great.

Tree I'd advise against Samsung's "Crystal" technology, it's just marketing-speak for plain old LED. Samsung does make a solid 4K HDR QLED set that's also fairly affordable. It's not OLED but it's a definite upgrade. It has the same Tizen operating system you'd find on the TV you posted, which is pretty solid. Look for the Samsung Q60A series. It's a good TV set, I actually got one for my brother as a birthday present last year and he's very happy with it still

Cool I was just looking at Q60A. I assume this is also good for gaming?

Yeah that's one of the things I checked before getting it 'cause my brother's an avid gamer

So what I would really like is to make monthly payments to Amazon and it looks like this TV doesn't allow that right now. What do you think of this one, which does allow monthly payments and is in the same price range? https://www.amazon.com/Hisense-55-Inch- ... HJ1ZQ&th=1

Or, this is a Hisense upgrade

That second Hisense set looks good. "ULED" sounds like another one of those marketing "fancy way to say LED" things but the local dimming feature looks good and it has a 120Hz refresh rate which is more than the Samsung Q60A. And Android TV is a major plus.

Hmm.. I'm tempted to just go for it or but.. if I wait for a sale, how much money can I even save, do you think? And maybe won't even get the payment plan opportunity later. I just think paying an extra hundred or so dollars isn't that bad for the convenience of not searching for a sale all the time. Do you think 700 is a fair price for right now?

I don't know, sorry. The market in Argentina is drastically different from the US.

I'd say just go for it. And then once you've bought it don't ever check up on the price again.

I may just do it. But now I'm thinking about my current TCL TV and what to do about it. It's only dimming, losing backlighting on the upper half of the TV for some reason. What does this mean? I read it would cost 1-200 dollars to repair backlighting, and that just wouldn't be worth it. But I also wonder if I can sell it somewhere in the shape it's in..?

If I may, can I also offer a bit of advice?

Advice: unless you need this TV RIGHT NOW, don't take on a payment plan. Even interest-free. Wait til you have the money to pay then enjoy the TV debt-free. You don't want to risk missing a payment and paying late fees and it's a drag seeing those little chunks of payments go on for weeks after you already have the TV.

I appreciate the advice, but I'm not going to be missing a payment. It's only 5 months long and it's a lot more bearable to me than seeing 720 deducted right away.

I get it. You do you. When I heard you mention a payment plan, I just couldn't help but offer up some stuff I've learned from experience. Bookmark that Ramsey site. Never know when you might need it.
