The board's server will undergo upgrade maintenance tonight, Nov 5, 2014, beginning approximately around 10 PM ET. Prepare for some possible down time during this process.

This isn't YouTube, Twitter, Facebook. They are moving away from the like/dislike cause it's toxic. But it's not a message board. People like/dislike all day long on this dumb website. They just post and and say "LIKE!" or "DISLIKE"! You can only do it if you are registered. And the reason you show the name of the person is it humanizes it and eliminates the need to reply with "great post Stip!" This is a small message board. Most posts won't get likes/thanks and if they do, will be just 1,2,3.
Think of a GD thread where someone posts something human. Instead of everyone feeling the need to reply "so sorry XYZ" some can just click "like" and show support to whatever the problem is.
Look, it works. Especially on a board w/ 100s of people not millions. Makes reading the threads so much easier. And allows feedback (positive feedback) to people who spend time writing something interesting w/o having to fucking quote reply "wow great post!".
This is such a strange post, though. You've invented this endemic problem of people posting "LIKE" and "DISLIKE" all the time, but that doesn't even happen. You're inventing a problem for your solution. There aren't a bunch of one word posts to slog through.
And you think the best response to a "human" post is the least human invention of the technological age: the fucking like button. If I said something funny IRL and my friends gave me the thumbs up and didn't say anything else, I would feel like I was living on an alien planet where robots killed all the aliens and now they're pretending they're people. This is "human" behavior to you?
Also, we don't have 100s or millions of users. There's like fifteen people left.

Also, let’s be honest, there aren’t many good posts to begin with, so this addition wouldn’t really move the needle.
