The board's server will undergo upgrade maintenance tonight, Nov 5, 2014, beginning approximately around 10 PM ET. Prepare for some possible down time during this process.
New users are still allowed to sign up. We added a manual verification step after the Balki episode because he was repeatedly signing up for new accounts to get around his ban.

We had to switch to manually activating accounts recently because of a certain user that was banned and kept creating second accounts.
I've gone back and activated the ones that are possibly not spammers or the same fuckwit, there were only 3.
Believe it or not, we don't get many legitimate sign ups. And of those, only a small percentage actually post.
I believe it. Not a lot of Pearl Jam news these days to drive traffic, and there are a million places to talk about Star Wars on the internet. RM's asset is the strong bonds we've built up over the years. That's not especially enticing to a newcomer (though we welcome newcomers!)

You're absolutely right. We only really get an influx when something major happens with PJ. Even when that happens, only a small amount of those new users don't stick around for long.
We're using an internet medium that's essentially antiquated. Which I like, because most other modern social media doesn't really encourage in depth conversations.

A very good point. I like this medium too, for exactly that reason. I like to call the trend towards shallower forms of communication "wiers-ing" after skitch's friend who tried to get us to move our baseball tournaments to reddit. He didn't understand

How about RMers decide who can be relet in.? Life bans SUCK. Especially for well-liked and long-standing RMers like Malice and Balki. Ok Balki wasn't long standing but from what I can see more people enjoyed him than not.
Even RunToDeath deserves forgiveness.
If RunToDeath is his old self, why can't he be forgiven?
Who are we to judge? One year is plenty punishment for what this is.
I just don't get it. It's such a small place that thrives on characters.

It's a compelling idea, kt. Now might be as good a time as any to forgive all lifetime bans. A fresh start in 2021!

Thanks, The Argonaut. If things don't work out with whoever, go back to another year ban...easy peasy.
What do you say, sweet mods?
Life is too short to be like that.
That's what I always say
