I don't think CLIF bars taste good at all. KIND bar or GTFO!

My stomach can't handle anything when training these days.

Even gels turn my stomach now. I switched to Tailwind about 2 years ago and haven't looked back.

What's the deal with gel, anyway? Your stomach troubles aside, is it just a quick and easily digestible fuel?

One thing at a time. Let me get past the 10 mile a week mark first, then we'll talk.

My doctor recommended a book to me by a Dr. Joel Fuhrman. I haven't really had a doctor in the past so I recognize that I'm susceptible to suggestions from authority on the matter of healthy eating. So why not muddy the waters and ask the RM health trust for diverse opinions? :o

This pyramid looks...okay. I don't like the idea of cutting down on fish, poultry and eggs though.

Fuhrman takes a very hardline approach that completely disregards the cultural joys of eating. I think he's a good guy to learn about and to add to your worldview, but I wouldn't take his advice as gospel, you know?

I mean, he says as much in his intro at least. Rest assured I'm not taking anything as gospel regarding diet, but I'd love to have a solid guideline and research behind it. I'm just glad I lucked into a doctor who studies nutrition. Literally the first and closest number I called on my network's list of providers and he happened to be just the guy I've been looking for.

Everybody has input. Everybody has an idea of what works but only your body can tell you what works for you. Try out different plans and go with what feels best. And dont ever, ever, take enjoyment out of a grand meal when necessary. I know you wont.

I quoted Pollan quoting Wilde on instagram today, coincidentally.

Argo, have you read Pollen's essay The Idea of a Garden? It might monkeywrench your vegan trip for the better.

I eat like 90% meat, dairy, pasta, breads, etc. I'm not unhealthy or overweight, but I get that I could be healthier. I simply enjoy food and see no sense in further making my life more miserable on the road to death.

I'm adapting Pollan's mantra

1. Care about what you eat
2. Be active
3. Don't get carried away

My mantra is everything in moderation. Lots of moderation.

Thanks, me too. I think rule #3 is a way to cover my own ass if/when I start obsessing over labels when me and the lady are just stopping off at the store for basics.

Or when I really want a donut or that third beer.
