I love not checking the board for a few days and then opening up a thread and happening upon a titillating controversy that causes me to backtrack for a page or two.

now i'm imagining him having guests over to watch the game and how confused they must be when he inexplicably stands up without saying a word

conversely, picture joe eating a hot dog and his guests thinking "now that is a patriot."

I don't know why Chud tried to paint Joey's completely reasonable "just going about his business while the anthem plays" thing as some sort of personal act of protest.

PHATJ is getting a bad rap here, but he didn't really present his argument with a lot of nuance. I get what he was getting at.

So the "alt right" feels the biggest problem with this country is that white people are forgotten, becoming the minority, the ones who are slighted by the changing times. I gotta imagine its only a matter of time before white people start kneeling for the anthem and it becomes the new sign of true patriotism. I cant wait.

i do wish they would tone down the anthem a little. Its too damn loud from the first note to the last!

My old man (a 38-year AF veteran) hated the anthem before events. He said it amounted to forced patriotism. I went to an OU game in Norman with him and he sat down with his hat on talking loudly. We were lucky to make it out of there alive.

Petition to change the national anthem to Flash Gordon's Theme.

Or maybe something post-rock.

My grandfather loved telling the story of King George V passing through his village in the 1920's and my grandfather as a young boy turned his back on him. His attitude didn't change at all.
