Last night I ubered home because it was pouring down rain and I biked to work.

Driver: I like Uber but I do miss a steady income.
Me: Ah, I bet.
(I didn't really want to pry and thought this would be it, but...)
Driver: Yeah, getting laid off will do that to you.
Me: That sucks, man. Sorry.
Driver: Eh, I had it coming. They don't really let you keep your job when you push your co-worker into Galveston Bay.

I just took an uber but didn't talk much with the driver.

Man, one of my Uber drivers in Miami told me about getting chased out of his native Venezuela by the Castro-Chavistas, and the process of seeking political asylum in the US. Heavy stuff

Did he just offer that story freely? I find it fascinating when drivers use their passengers as confidants and confessors. Seems to happen semi-regularly.

Almost died in a Lyft bc our elderly driver (!) decided to take his medication while driving, only to drop it and then reach down to try and find it. Goin 55mph down the street.

And we were listening to Billy Joel. Not the best way to go out.

Cheated death once again.

Wanna know what it's like riding in an Uber in Seattle.

Last night coming back from a bar we had the same Uber driver that I had two days ago while coming from a completely different part of town. I acknowledged the coincidence with him, but he didn't remember me. Pretty big ego blow, if I'm being honest.

i did something similar to someone i went to high school with when i was visiting home one time and out at a bar. i had no idea who he was, but he was apparently pretty popular according to my brother. there were only about 100 kids in my class.

i swear to god, guys, when i hit downtown on my commute on my scooter, it's a goddamn free-for-all with all these uber drivers. especially when i drive by Pike Place Market.

left turns out the right lane!
right turns out the left lane!
u-turn in the middle of traffic!
stop in the middle of the road and put on your flashers!
run a red light that's been red for at least 10 seconds!

It seems like more and more, Uber drivers are relying on their glitchy GPS to a fault. I’m not totally convinced that ride sharing GPS apps aren’t purposely getting it wrong for profit.

WTF did contract drivers do before GPS? Were cabbies just that in tune with city maps? More to the point -- are today’s drivers so coddled by tech that they don’t think a knowledge of the city map is worth a damn?
