Couldn't find a thread for this topic, sort of surprised if it doesn't already exist.

I just wanted to share this from The Ringer:

The Secret Behind Mark Wahlberg’s Movie Goatees
https://theringer.com/mark-wahlberg-dee ... .t9ukowgz1

But figured it could just as easily become a thread about facial hair in general.

A lot of guys participate in no-shave-november, so they look pretty terrible all month in the early stages of a beard and then begin to have something that looks OK by Thanksgiving. I started growing my beard at the beginning of September so that while all these other dopes look terrible all November, I will look manly as hell all month by comparison. This is my first beard in a year and a half, so I feel glad right now to have my friend back.

I want to have just a moustache someday. I see a cool forty or fifty years old guy with a moustache and I think that guy looks cool as hell. But I see a guy my age with a moustache and it looks dumb. Too much of an affectation. It doesn't compute. I can't wait told get old and grow a moustache. Hopefully a gray moustache.

I tend to view men with only mustaches as gay porn actors.

And I have only ever heard of women doing no shave November. I'm not opposed to it for dudes, however.

Yeah, it's supposed to be for prostate cancer. Women don't even have those.

You guys have bastardised it into full on no-shave November? It's meant to be Movember - moustache only....

I have perma-scruff. My general routine is to trim the area around my mouth and chin with the electric trimmer on 5 or 4, depending on the occasion. I trim outward from there in a decreasing manner, creating a gradient down to 1 or 0/razor blade near the bottom of my neck. I blend it into my sideburns between a 1-3, depending on when I last had a haircut. Then I do the detail work with tiny scissors. I do this once or twice a week. I find day 3 is usually my best day.

beards are for homosexuals. I don't need a beard because I have some chest-hair that sticks out over my collar between my huge pecks, and I have a 5 o'clock shadow by breakfast.

i have a beard and i'm not gay

i don't let mine grow too thick because it gets too curly and just doesn't look right on me...but i normally trim it down pretty short then let it grow out for a month or so...if i shave completely (which i haven't done since like 2011 probably) i have a 5 o'clock shadow in no time as well

truthfully I had a beard for a very long time, and then about 6 months ago I just couldn't stand how it looked on me any longer. Now I go clean-shaven.
