yup.

this also goes for anyone using a gift certificate, or if anyone still uses things like GroupOn, for meals at restaurants. seems like common sense, but i know a few waiters, and they have countless stories of someone coming in with a $50 gift card, and then tip on the bill minus $50.

Sadly this is the norm.

:shake:

i find it funny if someone frequents a restaurant, and they still do something like this. like they don't realize waiters have memories. then a sudden yelp review: "1 star - service was terrible!"

Sometimes they'll even write a tip on the gift card receipt. It doesn't work that way...

When you go to a bar and you find that the bartender is someone you know socially, do you tip them extra?

Yes

I always tip my bartender well.

Thank you for not questioning me as I stumble to my car, ready to kill several people.

20% seems high for bartenders. I tip 20% for servers and they do a lot more for a lot fewer customers. My standard bartender tip is one dollar per drink

A pint really shouldn't cost more than five dollars anyway. I'm already being ripped off

I find the whole idea of tipping confusing - especially if I'm going to a bar, I don't want to be having to do math at the end of a night drinking

We don't tip in Australia. However, it's customary to punch them in the balls if they are doing a good job.

So, what do you do? We never tip in this instance.

No, we don't tip if we're picking it up.

I don't either. If it is a place I repeatedly visit I might tip a bit though.
