Sometimes you just gotta buckle down and be depressed for long periods of time.

So the guy I saw last week told me I have to "accept the loss" and take time to feel it. Also that I should write what I'm feeling down so he can read it instead of trying to remember everything for the sessions. So I typed a 1.5 page single-spaced document and I feel worse than ever. It's like, "Hey, you know all those things that have weighed you down over the past few months? Let's feel all of them at the same time! Yay!" So yesterday and today have been shit.

There's this one guy at work who I don't think knows the definition of "dead horse". He finds his joke and just keeps beating it. Yesterday morning when I was late because of a bus accident he said, "What, did the bus hit a flock of geese?" Because one time two years ago while biking into work a goose ran in front of me. I tried - I really tried - to look like I was smiling, but I think he could tell it wasn't in my eyes at all because he immediately said, "hey, we gotta have jokes. Jokes, right?" and shut up. edit: I should mention that he brings it up at least once a month. The same with another co-worker who had a crow attack him. As funny as that sounds - and it is a funny story - it's funny the first time. The 1,001st? Not so God-damn much.

:shake: I need an anger counselor because at this point I'm more angry than depressed and I need to keep this job.

I'm feeling really anxious today, panic symptoms for no reason. First day back at work since vacation and was up until 1:30 so maybe that has something to do with it.

I feel your pain. I have no real friends (wife and son don't count) and I'm losing most of what I considered hobbies. I can't bike as often because of my wife's pain and video games are right out because I feel like if I'm playing then I'm not doing something that is potentially important around the house so I sit and futz on my phone playing Magikarp Jump or whatever.

I guess, but who's expectations are you trying to meet, exactly?

Who's defining "loser?" Who's defining what an acceptable hobby is?

A good friend of mine essentially works, then sits a home watching Twilight Zone reruns and building Lego sets all day. He's perfectly happy.

And you know what? I'm happy for him. He's a smart and nice person who finds real joy in things that others probably wouldn't. But who fucking cares?

He's not a worse person or anymore of a loser than some of my runner "friends," who spend all their time bitching about their jobs and family.

Also, lots of people have too many friends. Better to have a few real friends than try to maintain friendships with people you have no real connection with.

the closest things i have to friends are all married with kids and busy, or live far away

Didn't you start a new medication recently? Isn't it common to feel worse for a few weeks before feeling better when starting new meds?

Ride it out for a few weeks with the new meds and see if things change. My brother had a hard time initially when prescribed Prozac and his symptoms seemed worse. I think it was over a month before he felt better. I'm pretty sure he still takes it and he's way more well adjusted and successful than me.

I can't remember how I responded to Zoloft or if it even helped but I think it's hard to be self aware about meds and you need to rely on someone close to you for an opinion on if they 'work' or not.
