*We really only have one thread about work and it’s oddly specific to co-workers. We need more of a catch-all thread. And to be honest I couldn’t find the other one in the search.
When you take paid time off, does it matter what it’s for? As in vacation time vs. sick time? We used to have a distinction which I thought was SUUUUPER lame. Now it’s all combined, as it should be. You accumulate X hours and you take that time off for whatever you want.

Using up vacation days because you're sick seems shitty -- you're not on vacation, you're unable to work because you're sick. I'm freelance now, but down here companies give full-time employees a minimum of 4 weeks vacation time a year, which is separate from sick days. I'm not certain what the limit is for sick days, but I'm pretty sure it's like 3 months with a medical certificate.

I'm inclined to agree with bammer here as long as PTO days equal or exceed what an employee would get in vacation and sick days combined. Lumping it all together and letting the employee choose how to use it seems like it would save a company money while still giving the employee a fair amount of personal flexibility.

Your concern has already been considered and resolved in my method.
You accumulate days off - or rather hours off I guess - and use them however you want/need.

We have vacation days, sick days, and "personal" days. Sick days and Personal days can be taken in 1 hour increments, while vacation can only be taken in four. You get three personal days a year and they go away on December 31st. Vacation and sick days can roll over year after year with an absurd limit.

This is basically my setup but if I keep over a certain number of vacation hours they roll over into sick time.

Whatever you’re doing now - do you expect to be doing in 5 years?
Let’s get a good story about being fired.
Is your career in line with your major in college?

first year at my company you get 1.25 days vacation a month (3 weeks vacation)
sick days are unlimited within reason. if you're out more than a week you let HR know and you go on short term, long term if it will be longer
we get anywhere from a 3%-10% bonus (gross pay) end of year which is paid around beginning of december so you can have that money for Christmas
medical benefits (health/vision/dental) cost a whopping $10 per pay
first year they match 5% of your 401k contribution, after that first year 10%
when back to the office full time lunch is catered on fridays and during the week free water and various sorts of drinks as well as snacks and fresh fruit are available

Yup.
Just sleep here. You never have to leave. Really, it’s ok. Get comfortable.
