I get it through my wife's employer, but we looked into it. It was around $500/mo for bare bones coverage for the two of us, I'm sure our kid would throw that way off.

yeah, adding dental and vision, we were/are looking at like $700/month for the two of us. fucking ridiculous. throw in your deductibles and you're looking at like $10k/year for insurance for two healthy people.

at some point it honestly might be the breaking point for my current job. i love remote work so far, but might have to look elsewhere that offers some sort of plan.

The continuous precarity of freelance labor or the mind crushing absurdity of tree_'s secretary job

How many of you are using Slack? It's such a double-edged sword: Great for getting remote teams on the same page, but also a real time suck.

I used slack at the old hospitality group I was employed by. It was a game changer when it came to figuring out events and staffing demands between concepts. Great for culture building too. I remember the “mixtape” channel we had in particular playing a key part in developing certain bar events centered around music.

That right there is the sort of behavior that would get you written up in tree's office.

In all seriousness though, no way do I feel like I can goof off on Slack -- that's like a permanent record of my productivity!

Real talk: that company went bankrupt, so take that for what it’s worth.
