I have had a real shit week. So glad it's Friday.

Going for father of the year tonight too. I took my 18yo son for a beer and a chat this arvo as there are a few issues we needed to address mano-a-mano. That was actually pretty successful but I have maintained a steady pace on the beers since. And forgetting my daughter had a basketball game I also snuck in a sly vape.

I said I'd had a shit week.

So I ended up having to Uber with my daughter to the game, and here I sit doubly buzzed.

Like I said, father of the year stuff here folks.

My oldest is a freshman in high school this year. She’s in marching band and their first game is tonight. Hopefully after halftime we can leave.

Things you don't want to hear from your 5-year-old daughter... "The weiner juice got in my eyes!"

Spoiler: show
I was cutting up her hotdog with a butter knife.

My oldest is 14. After hearing a recording of Aretha at age 14, I’ve decided the Weaseling has some work to do.

Just heard my son won the spelling bee at the fair for the third year going. He misspelled a word - meringue - but the other person missed it too. He spelled his next word correctly while she didn't. Woo.

He gets $75 for it too; that's part of how he affords his Lego sets.

Ha! Yep, we sure did! But I had to go back to her school and pick her up at fucking 11pm.

We’re the big central high school in the county and we played one of the “lesser podunk” schools within the county. They fucking waxed us. I think it ended up being 30-7.

Some background: my child attends the high school that was my high school’s most bitter of rivals. I grew up on the next town over, but where we are now has much more to offer than my hometown does. It’s still quite tough for me to be pulling for a school I hated growing up. At least she’s in the band where it’s not really a competition, I guess.

We just found out both Weaselings made the cast for this year’s Children Theatre production. It’s a good day in the Wease household.

Are high school rivalries still a thing?

My wife and I were talking about being grandparents: It's all the fun of having a baby again but someone else cleans up the messes. So enjoy that fun all over again.

I'm glad I haven't seen anything like this in our schools yet. The closest I've come to having a profile photo is on Goodreads and that's with my son's head blocking most of my face anyway.

Yes! Seems like the best of everything! She’s so stinkin’ cute.
