Am I a sucker for not canceling my movie theater membership yet? Supposedly my benefits (4 tickets a month) are accumulating and I'll be able to use them when the theaters open back up, plus they're desperate to keep my business so they keep throwing in free things (concession stand combos! more tickets!) in increasingly unhinged "PLEASE DON'T CANCEL US" marketing emails.

But what happens if they never open back up? AMC here is saying they may be done and may never reopen. If your chain doesn’t, then you’re just throwing money away every month.

Yeah exactly, this is why I'm wondering.

you should suggest they host an outdoor evening viewing event in a park or something

even if / when by law movie theaters reopen, it’s not a place i would feel comfortable sitting in for a while, personally...

All our theaters are opening up next week. The smaller independent ones opened a couple of weeks ago. I'd say it's a safe investment

What I don't understand about movie theaters opening up is haven't new releases basically been pulled? What will they show?

At the moment they're showing stuff that was on when we went into lock-down, plus they're showing old school stuff like the run of Nightmare on Elm St, Forrest Gump, Ghostbusters etc... And there's a bunch of independent films being shown

My uncle who was advocating for opening my hometown back up is now in the hospital with Coronavirus. I like him and I really hope he pulls through
