just this morning i was thinking... when we bought our house 6 years ago, the inspector told us we needed to change the hot water heater ASAP. after moving in, i checked the serial number, and it was about 12 years old, which sure, i guess is probably getting up there. put it off bc i didn't have the extra $1000 to get a new one. and 6 years later, it's still going strong. wtf?

start, i googled "dishwasher won't drain" and got a ton of "fix your dishwasher in under five minutes" How-To vids. Are these not sufficient for your needs?

I watched a few as well. Most of those videos are workign with removing all parts and making sure there is no clog. ive done most of that and haven't seen anything.

does your washer drain into a garbage disposal?

yeah this can be a main cause, if you have a GD (lol) your dishwasher probably drains into/through it. Start there.

OMG strat don't cut off your fingers! I had to get some broken glass out of our disposal a couple months back, there is definitely a right way to go about this: Hit the breaker for your disposal, press the emergency stop button if it has one (usually on the bottom of the tank), unplug the device, and go in there with a shop vac rather than your digits.

yeah, any time something falls down there, i use my grill tongs, even when i unplug it
