If you're 10 minutes late you're on time.

My wife drives me bonkers with her "it's 45 minutes until we're supposed to be there, let's go!"

We're driving to see your mom, she lives five miles away.

"I know! We're going to be late!"

I tend to be a 'right on time' guy when it comes to most things nowadays. If it's something that's planned then yeah I'm going to shoot for a little early but if it's routine like work or an appointment then it's going to be five minutes early at the most. I don't get rewarded for showing up to work early (I get here before my boss anyway) and I can count on one hand the number of times I've seen a doctor early.

My in-laws are the same way.

"We have to be there tomorrow by 6pm. It's ten miles away."

Tomorrow @ 3pm: "Everyone ready? We don't want to be late and we're gonna make a few quick stops first."

It's shitty either way, especially for one-on-one meetings, but I feel like 10-15 minutes is understandable

Scroll up and you will see that Chud and I have moved on from hating on the chronically late to pinpointing where "understandable" becomes "infuriating"

I might be wrong, but I feel like punctuality ettiquette might be a little different in some South American countries. I always just assume people will show up at least around 10-15 minutes late.
Not that tardiness should be OK but I'm kinda used to it.

I heard that in Germany, if you are late, they can legally kill you.

making people wait is not great but just being late in general is less of an issue.

Isn't that what being late is? You are making someone wait
