Push-ups are great, but aren’t you plateauing?

i probably don't know what i'm talking about
My joints are all fucked up, so I’ve been reading about different approaches. Negative pull-ups intrigue me. Basically, you start in the already pulled up position and just slowly lower yourself. Time under tension being the key factor. I’m wondering if a similar approach to push-ups would spark growth equal to lifting weights that stress my fucked up joints.
